Okay.. so don’t be alarmed by the name, I know at first it probably sounds like something that’s away with the fairies but bare with me.
It’s no secret that I didn’t really have the most pleasant experience at the hospital when I was having Daniel for a number of reasons.
I was 17 and he was my first child so realistically what did I know about giving birth? Absolutely nothing. I went into labour on the morning of the 29th of March 2013, I was at Craigs house and yeah I was freaking out just a little bit.
We called my Mam and I remember her being so calm and telling us she had a few things to get in town and a couple of jobs to do at home and she would come over then (she arrived 5 hours later) I was thinking ‘what is this one at’. But obviously she knew labour takes hours and its slow at the beginning and knew we had time.
Anyway we eventually went to the hospital. Not going into too much detail because I don’t know if anyone wants to hear that, but my whole hospital experience was uncomfortable, embarrassing ( yeah you may say goodbye to any dignity because you will have people standing around you essentially having a look) I was starving (they wouldn’t let me eat incase it made me sick, even though I was sick anyway from gas and air that they had forced on me even though I didn’t want it) I remember trying to get Craig to go down and sneak up some skittles. Probably not the best thing to be looking for thinking back.
I didn’t make any informed decisions I felt like they just made all the decisions for me and I was just supposed to do what I was told.
Now fast forwarding to this time around I want to make sure I have a much nicer experience, as nice as it can be anyway. So my friend had told me about hypnobirthing and told me about some bloggers that have their own videos about it. If you are pregnant and someone tells you this could be helpful, really what is the harm is trying it because you will be giving birth either way you might as well know more about it.
In hypnobirthing they talk about if you were going to do a marathon or any event you would prepare your body for it so why do we think it is okay to do nothing to prepare for labour? We should be preparing ourselves too because it is a big task.
Also they talk about really important things such as how we are so conditioned to seeing women give birth lying down but that’s actually the worst position we could be in giving birth and is the cause of things maybe taking longer and why some women have tearing issues.
I have spent hours looking at videos now and honestly loving it and it has made me so relaxed and excited about it. Everyone always has horror stories about birth but it is so nice to hear positive stories and it will make a difference to how you feel.
Hypnobirthing is all about being educated on what is actually happening in your body during labour and how you can actually help the whole process go better by learning techniques.
I’m not going to pretend I’m an expert, I’m still learning about it too but the one I have been following the most is The Positive Birth Company. Give their videos a try, they are really short and explain everything really well. Here is what they say;

I have watched all the videos from the Positive Birth Company’s YouTube channel (I’ll leave a link below) and really found them helpful.
From the videos I’ve gone on to watch bloggers talk about their experience with it so I will put some of my favourites at the bottom.
The founder of the Positive Birth company is just after writing a book too and I have been impatiently waiting for it to be released! But it came out at 12 last night and I bought it on the Apple Book store straight away and started reading it (I have Craig reading it too) because in hypnobirthing they talk about how the role of the partner is really important too and they don’t have to just stand in the room and feel helpless. The book is called “practical ways to make your birth better” by Siobhan Miller.
I won’t try and go into detail about it all because I don’t want to explain it all wrong but honestly have a look for yourself and you’ll love it, you’ll feel far more relaxed because you’ll know exactly what is going on and hearing positive stories will make such a difference emotionally.
